Chelsea squad’s view on Mauricio Pochettino is clear after sack chants at Brentford

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic says the team is fully behind manager Mauricio Pochettino.

It comes after some fans reacted angrily to him during Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Brentford. Sections of the away supporters targeted the Argentine manager.

Pochettino faced another difficult afternoon as Chelsea came from behind to salvage a draw. When the Blues were down 2-1, cries of ‘f*** off Mauricio’ could be heard from the away end.

Pochettino defended his team, telling irate fans to focus their anger on him rather than his players. “We cannot blame the fans,” he remarked when questioned about the post-match sack shouts. “My message is, OK, if they need to vent their dissatisfaction, I’d rather it be via me than the team.

“I am powerful, and with time, we will change perceptions. But I don’t want the supporters blaming the players. I’d rather take the blame than let the players go wild on the field. I don’t care; I am strong enough. I am 52 now.

“The players don’t deserve this. They deserve recognition and support from our fans. If someone needs to take the responsibility, that’s fine. That’s why I am
