Manchester United midfielder Casemiro named Brazil captain

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro named Brazil captain  Brazil’s international friendly matchup against Morocco will be captained by Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

Casemiro arrived in the Premier League last summer for an initial £60 million transfer fee from Real Madrid after nine incredibly successful years with the Spanish club, where he won five Champions League medals and three La Liga titles. In central midfield, Casemiro has been a thorn in the side of the Old Trafford giants.

Casemiro has made 38 appearances for United across all competitions, addressing long-standing issues in the back, and he assisted the team in breaking its six-year trophy drought against Newcastle United at Wembley last month. He has been suspended from domestic play for four games.

But, Casemiro is now away on international duty with his United teammates, and he will captain The Selecao when they face World Cup underdog Morocco on Saturday night (10pm UK time) in the African city of Tangier.

Due to a knee injury, regular captain Thiago Silva of Chelsea was unable to go with Brazil, and interim manager Ramon Menezes has picked Casemiro as his replacement. About such selection, Casemiro stated: “[Leadership] can be thought of in a variety of ways.

“While Thiago Silva served as our captain during the World Cup, I feel ready. I was ready for this, and I appreciate your trust. If it’s another captain, no issue; I know I’m one of the leaders and I have full authority to address the group in my capacity as captain.”

Alex Telles and Antony might be able to join Casemiro, who will earn his 70th cap on Saturday night, in the Brazil starting lineup. Fred was left off of the team.
